Just like the original back in 1958, the Silvertone 1303/U2 offers a unique sound and playing experience that will inspire you to express yourself the same way as the rock icons that played the originals did...but we did see it fit to make a few minor changes.

Why the Silvertone 1303/U2?
The single cutaway body is made of solid Mahogany, for a deep rich tone not found in the original 1303/U2. The string through body bridge means faultless intonation and better string attack - an improvement over the original rosewood bridge. Two chrome lipstick pickups deliver clean sounding open chords, but kick in the drive and these babies will deliver a bluesy bite reminiscent of some of the greatest players in rock n roll history. We also paid special attention to the neck profile (we thought it best to actually give it a profile versus a table leg!), improving it with a modern C-shape, as well as coupling it to the body with a better engineered neck joint system, for better sustain. The individual machine heads are another improvement over the original - the results which both you and your audience will appreciate.
How is this reissue different from the original 1303/U2?

The body is made of solid Mahogany, for a deep rich tone not found in the original 1303/U2. The string through body bridge means faultless intonation and better string attack - an improvement over the original rosewood bridge. We also paid special attention to the neck profile, improving it with a comfortable C-shape, as well as coupling it to the body with a newly engineered neck joint system for longer sustaining notes. The individual machine heads are another upgrade over the original - the results which both you and your audience will appreciate.

Lipstick Single Coil Pickups

The single-coil pickups of the 1303/U2 are wound to the same specifications as the originals. The "lipstick" case provides unmatched shielding for low noise and high signal.

Upgraded Hardware

The original 1303/U2 had less-that-modern bridge, tailpiece and tuners. The Reissue has a fully adjustable bridge for accurate intonation and smooth individual tuners.

Improved Playability

Neck shapes and fret jobs were inconsistent on the original 1303. The Reissue features a comfortable (and consistent) C-shaped neck with a precise and well-finished fret job. The neck also features a two-way truss rod for accurate and dependable adjustment.

More about Silvertone Guitars

Silvertone was the "musical" brand for the Sears, Roebuck & Company, beginning nearly a century ago. Silvertone guitars appeared in the 1930s, with electric 6-strings appearing in the early 40s. The Fabulous 50s was the decade where Silvertone electric guitars began to hit their stride. The first solid bodies appeared in 1954 and their immediate success was followed up with additional models. More than 25 solid, hollow, and hybrid guitars were introduced, many of them Silvertone classics. The 1960s were the Golden Age for guitars in America. Silvertone guitars were the entry point for countless young musicians. Today, the Silvertone tradition continues with the Silvertone Reissue line: the classic guitars with upgraded features at reasonable prices.
